A hail storm on Sunday, July 27, 2014 impacted portions of metropolitan Knoxville, Tennessee.  Weather radar sources indicate the area was impacted with hail stones as large as 1.5 inches.  One NOAA Storm Spotter reported 1 inch diameter hail west of the city in Knox County.  The evaluated area contain approximately 20 thousand housing units occupied by over 40 thousand persons.

The evaluated area includes downtown Knoxville and areas that are primarily west of the Tennessee River.  This area includes both high density residential housing and large tracts of commercial and industrial properties.  A few large parks and the University of Tennessee's main campus are also within the evaluation area.
